Skerries 100 Road Race in 1988....
Sam McClements, Phillip McCallen and Johnny Rea were the stars of 43rd Skerries Road Race held on Staurday, July 2, 1988.
Sponsored by EBC Brakes, it was Loughshinny Club´s second Skerries, having taken over the promotion from Dublin and District Motor Cycle Club the previous zdar.
Twenty-four-year-old Phillip McCallen, then in the early days of his meteoric road racing career, had easy wins in both 200cc and 250cc events.
In the 200cc race he had a comfortable margin over Alan Caughey at the finish, with Leslie McMaster third.
Much was expected of Bangor´s Steven Cull in the 250cc race, but it was the determined McCallen who gat away first ran out an unchallenged Winter, with a new class lap record of 98.77mph. Cull took second with Sammy Henry third. Best Southern Centre rider, Fran Morrison, was in fourth place.
Sam McClements, always a popular visitor at Skerries, won both the Unlimited cc and Classic events on Suzuki and Ryan Bortin, respectively.
Dubliner Marc Carter son of four-times Skerries winner Dickie Carter, won a dramatic 350cc which had to be red-flagged twice due to accidents involving David Johnston and Davy Reid.
